The atmosphere is similar to April (link), and although the crowds do pick up slightly, it still doesn\u2019t compare to the congestion during the summer months. Sunseekers will also be pleased by the increase in temperatures, yet the weather is still comfortable enough to fully appreciate the ancient sites.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The beauty of visiting Athens in May is that you can explore every nook and cranny of the city with all services and businesses in full operation. The city of Heraklion in Crete organises a lavish flower show, a custom that has been occurring for thousands of years. Here, a feast is enjoyed, which typically consists of fava beans, capers, sardines, and olives. Once everyone\u2019s satiated, the evening continues with traditional dancing and plenty of music.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Later on in the month, on the 29th of May, Akrotiri comes to life yet again, but this time so does Fira, in honouring Saint Theodosia.
