Overview

Experience first-hand Ireland's hospitality through your local guides and the local guesthouses and B&Bs that welcome you with open arms. On this twelve-day Ireland tour, you will explore and learn about the counties of Wicklow, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Waterford, Cork, Kerry, Clare, Galway and, of course, Dublin!

Beginning in the cultural and vibrant city of Dublin, you'll travel south to explore Wicklow and the medieval town of Kilkenny. After exploring the area of South Tipperary, rich in ancient history you'll make your way through Waterford, Cork and Kerry, some of Ireland's most famed destinations.

Ireland cannot be truly experienced without visiting its dramatic coastal roads along the Wild Atlantic Way which are home to some of the best coastal drives in the world and an abundance of beautiful walks. Your journey throughout southern Ireland will be dotted with rugged landscapes, beautiful remote villages and of course, traditional Irish pubs, dancing and cuisine.

Day 1

Arrive in Dublin

Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be collected by your local guide and taken on a brief tour of the city. Your guide will point out the major attractions and help you to get your bearings, before dropping you at the hotel for you to check in. In the afternoon, you'll visit Dublin's only fully operating whiskey distillery to taste, smell and learn about the variety of whiskey distilled here. In the evening, you'll experience why Dublin is known as a cultural city.

Today, you'll leave Dublin behind and head onwards to explore Ireland's ancient past as you travel south to the Garden of Ireland, Powerscourt House of Gardens, and onto the medieval town of Kilkenny. Voted by National Geographic as the third-best gardens in the world, Powerscourt is a truly sublime mix of manicured landscapes and natural views of the mountains beyond. After lunch in a traditional Irish pub, you'll continue to Kilkenny where you'll explore and stay overnight.

South Tipperary is rich in ancient history with the Rock of Cashel being the most celebrated of these many incredible sites. Today, you'll take a tour around some of the best sights in South Tipperary taking in the fresh Irish air and the views as you go. In the afternoon, you'll have a unique opportunity to visit a sheep farm and learn all about the processes. The tour will conclude with a sheep milk and cheese tasting, paired with wine of course.

After checking in to your hotel, you'll explore this historic town with its colourful terraced houses and famous fort.

Explore East Cork

You'll begin your day by visiting the colourful, small town of Cobh. Whilst it may seem like a small town, Cobh has an incredible story to tell and is linked with some of Ireland's biggest events in history such as the huge emigration of people during the famine and being the place where the fateful Titanic set sail from. The stories of both these periods in history are told by those who lived through it in the museums. Afterwards, you'll head to the Jameson Whiskey Distillery for a tour.

The Kingdom of Kerry, as it is known by locals, contains some of Ireland's most iconic scenery: sea-pounded sea cliffs and soft beaches, emerald-green farmland with tumbledown stone walls, mist-shrouded bogs and mountain peaks. Today is the start of your Kerry exploration beginning with a visit to the colourful and vibrant Kenmare town before arriving in Killarney National Park where you'll be taken to discover the stunning landscapes of this area before enjoying a sunset kayak at Ross Castle.

Afterwards, you'll learn about the art form of cutting crystal at Dingle Crystal.

Beara is off the radar of many travellers, even some Irish tourists, but its beauty will inspire you to walk, explore and picnic outdoors. The tapering 30-mile-long peninsula is far more untamed, wild and rugged than others along the same Wild Atlantic coastline. The impressive Caha and Slieve Miskish mountain ranges form a formidable backdrop to its deserted beaches, made up mostly of shingle and stone. Your route along the Beara Peninsula will be dotted with traditional pubs.

Today, you'll continue your Ireland tour along the Wild Atlantic Way to Clare, where the ocean relentlessly pounds coastline year-round, eroding rock into fantastic formations and creating sheer cliffs including the iconic Cliffs of Moher and Loop Head. Here you'll explore the undulating landscape and marvel at the sheer cliff faces whilst listening to the seabirds cry above you. In the evening, you'll arrive in Doolin where you'll stay overnight.

From the ocean to the land, Clare is sure to excite. The moonscape-like bare limestone expanse of the Burren, which blazes with wildflowers in spring, is an area close to 125 square miles of limestone rock covering imposing majestic mountains and tranquil valleys. You'll explore this lunar-like landscape on foot, discovering the various crevices and pretty coastal villages along the way before arriving in Clifden in the evening.

Connemara is one of Ireland’s most wild and beautiful regions and what better way to take in this scenery than on the back of a native Irish pony on the beach.

En route back to Dublin, you'll explore the ancient midlands, stopping at Clonmacnoise and Glasson Village along the way. Ireland's Midlands are made up of rich landscapes of blanket bog dispersed with lakes, castles and historic towns. This marks the end of your Ireland tour. When you reach Dublin, you'll be taken to the airport or back to the centre if you plan to stay longer.
