Explore the jewels of colonial cities and experience a journey through time in the lesser-known "magic towns" of Mexico.

This fourteen-day adventure will begin in Mexico City and travel through the states of Michoacan, Querétaro and Guanajuato. Accompanied by expert locals, you will be shown the true culture of Mexico with the amazing tastes, sights and art that few have the opportunity and time to see.

From wine tastings to Aztec ruins, during these 2 weeks in Mexico you will discover the country's charms through a complete panorama of these mythical cities steeped in history.

Today, you'll spend the day exploring the cultural sites and hidden secrets of this famous capital. You'll spend your morning in the centre visiting the buildings that sit in the Zocalo square. This includes the government buildings and Templo Mayor! You'll have lunch on a boat on the Xochimilco lake and then spend your afternoon in the district of Coyoacan where you can visit the house of famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and the house of the exiled Russian revolutionary, Leon Trotsky.

Wonders of Teotihuacan

Today, you'll travel to Teotihuacan, where you can climb up the Pyramid of the Sun and marvel at the ruins of Aztec architecture on this mass complex built between the 1st and 7th centuries. On your way to Teotihuacan, you'll visit the Basilica of our Lady Guadalupe, a national shrine. The Virgin Mary was believed to have appeared here in the 18th century and today, it is the second most visited Catholic church in the world, just after St. Peter's Cathedral in Vatican City.

Today, you'll visit the incredible state of Puebla, famous for its gastronomy and home to the volcano, Popocatépetl. En route to Puebla, you'll stop at Cholula and walk up to the yellow church built on top of an old pyramid and take in the breathtaking views before spending an afternoon in Puebla. Puebla will wow you with its culturally rich history that dates back nearly 500 years. You'll return to Mexico City at the end of the afternoon.

Today, you'll leave Mexico City behind and travel through the state of Michoacan to Morelia. Upon arrival, you'll check-in and then have the rest of the afternoon to explore this colonial city and its architecture; many of its buildings are made from the same pink stone. In the evening, you'll take a city tour and learn about the legends of this intriguing city. You'll pass by the city's main buildings including the Calzada de Fray Antonio de San Miguel and the Plaza del Templo del Carmen.

This morning, with your guide, you'll take a tour around Morelia and visit some of the sites that make this city full of culture. You'll admire the aqueduct that runs through the centre, stroll through parks and sample local food. In the afternoon, you'll take a tour of the Candy Museum and learn all about the history of 'dulces' in Morelia. You can discover the fascinating taste of Morelia with its extensive variety of traditional sweets that will transport you to the colonial era.

Halfway through your 2 weeks in Mexico, you'll take a trip through some of the smaller towns in the state of Michoacan. You'll start in Capula, the home of the Catrina, the female skeleton which has become the face of the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico. You'll have lunch in a local restaurant in Tzintzuntzan and then take a boat across to Janitzio Island. You'll climb to the top and admire the view of the lake and surrounding countryside. You'll arrive in Patzcuaro at the end of the day.

This morning, you'll take a trip to Lake Zirahuen where you can take a boat or a kayak out onto the lake and admire the scenery. You'll listen to some legends of the lake from your guide and enjoy the peace and quiet! In the afternoon, you'll visit the village of Santa Clara del Cobre, famous for its copper industry. Here, you'll visit a small copper workshop and learn all about this craft from a master maker. In the late afternoon, you'll return to your hotel.

Today, you'll leave Lake Zirahuen behind and travel to Guanajuato, one of the most colourful colonial cities in central Mexico. Upon arrival, you'll have the rest of the afternoon and evening to explore this wonderful city. From the monument El Pipila, you can admire the view of the city with its multi-coloured buildings, churches and squares. Later, you can take a stroll around the city. Don't miss the "street of the kiss" where you can learn about a story of forbidden love!

Upon arrival, you'll have the rest of the afternoon to explore San Miguel de Allende and its maze of streets.

After tasting some delicious wines and learning about their production, you will visit Peña de Bernal, with its huge Monolith and Tequisquiapan, before returning to Queretaro in the evening. The rest of the evening will then be free for you to enjoy however you wish.
