Estancias are essentially ranches built on grasslands. During colonial times, Estancias could only be run by Spanish landowners where they would raise farm animals. Today, many of the Estancias have been renovated into hotels that are bursting with activities, that offers a unique chance to learn about life in more rural parts of Uruguay.
Estancia San Pedro de Timote was one of the first in Uruguay and today is a beautiful colonial home surrounded by verdant land. During this short Uruguay trip, you'll have the chance to explore on horseback, on a long walk, by bicycle or simply by sitting by the pool!

From Montevideo, you'll jump in the car to San Pedro de Timote, just two hours and 45 minutes from the city. The Estancia San Pedro de Timote was one of the first and most important estancias in Uruguay, founded by Pedro Jose Jackson in 1854. The large Spanish main building from the colonial period has been a listed building since 1997.

The estancia has been completely restored and opened to guests. It offers good comfort and excellent traditional cuisine in an authentic restaurant. You can enjoy the beautiful nature on horseback, on foot by bicycle or even fishing. Here you can experience Uruguayan country life at its best, there are many trails surrounding the estancia to be explored and help you to embrace the beauty of the Uruguayan landscape.
