7-Day Kyoto Highlights & Trips to Nara, Osaka, Hiroshima

Overview

On this tour, you'll spend a glorious week in Kyoto and Osaka. From morning to evening, you'll have the option of the company of a local guide who can show you the highlights of each city.

You'll take two and a half days to explore Kyoto travel sites, the most beautiful and cultural city in Japan. You'll discover the Bamboo Forest, the Golden Pavilion, the Rock Garden, Maiko Town (Gion) and the famous Fushimi Inari Shrine with thousands of vermilion Tori gates, as well as the iconic Kiyomizu Temple.

You'll venture out on a half-day trip to Nara known for its free-roaming deer and incredible ancient temple home to the giant Buddha. Next, you'll head to Osaka, a paradise of Japanese street food. Osaka has a sophisticated high-end area called "Kita" and a colourful, flashy area called "Minami". You will visit both districts and see the differences for yourself.

Finally, you'll take a day trip to Hiroshima by bullet train. Around Hiroshima, you will visit two special World Heritage sites -the Atomic Bomb Dome and Itsukushima Shrine- with a local Hiroshima guide.

During this trip, you will visit the most historical and cultural areas in Japan. You'll learn more about the real make-up of Japan and find the best insights into the country.

Day 1

Arrive at Kansai International Airport & Transfer to Kyoto

Welcome to Central Japan! After your flight arrives at Kansai International Airport (KIX), there are different ways to travel to Kyoto. You can transfer with a private minivan, or take the train. The express train, Haruka, runs from KIX to Kyoto Station. You can buy a ticket at the station for 3,630 yen per person. If you have JR Pass and activate it, you can book the seat for free. Upon arrival, you'll check into your hotel and then have the rest of the afternoon and evening free.

On the east side of Kyoto, the city centre sits on the elegant Kamo River. There are a lot of historical and iconic spots in this area. On this full-day tour, you can visit one of the most authentic temples, the Silver Pavilion. After that, you can take a peaceful walk along the Philosopher's Pathway. Then, you'll visit the huge zen temple, Nanzen-ji, as well as Kiyomizu Temple and the scenic Sanneizaka slope. Finally, you will walk around Gion District and learn about Geisha culture.

Compared to the east side, Kyoto's west side is much more rural so you can easily appreciate nature. There are several world heritage sites and popular destinations such as the Golden Pavilion, Ryoan-ji Rock Garden, Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, Togetsu Bridge and Nijo Castle. All sites are worth visiting with your local guide. You can also opt to visit the Monkey Park, Ninna-ji Temple, To-ji Pagoda or Kamishichiken District if you prefer.

Today, you will visit the southern part of Kyoto and take a trip to Nara with a local guide and a private car. First, you will visit Fushimi Inari Shrine with thousands of red Tori gates. Then, you'll head to Nara to explore Nara Park which is known as the deer park because there are lots of free-roaming deer. You'll also visit the iconic Todai-ji Giant Buddha Hall where you will be overwhelmed by the massive Buddha statue! After your tour of Nara, you'll transfer to your hotel in Osaka.
