Immerse yourself in the rich heritage and unique history through a South Island New Zealand tour that is fully private and guided through the East Coast of the South Island. It will incorporate cultural and natural history, vintage transport, and architecture on this ten-day exclusion private tour!

You'll be accompanied by a cultured, educated expert guide who is on hand to provide advice and expertise and ensure that the people in their care are looked after and have the best holiday possible.

You'll travel from Picton and Marlborough to Christchurch via Kaikoura. After exploring Christchurch and the nearby Akaroa, you'll cross into Mount Cook National Park where you'll stay on the shores of Lake Pukaki, explore Hooker Valley and more.

A journey to Lanarch Castle will have you pass through Oamaru and enjoy a delicious seafood lunch at a famous restaurant. Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula will be two of your final stops before you traverse the Catlins to your final destinations of Curio Bay, Invercargill and Bluff.

Day 1

You'll meet your driver and guide and then be taken to explore Picton and the wineries of Marlborough before arriving at your accommodation for the next two nights in Blenheim. Built around a very sheltered harbour, Picton has an attractive seafront dotted with cafés, restaurants, various types of galleries. With 90% of the country’s sauvignon blanc plantings, Marlborough is New Zealand’s (some say the world’s) sauvignon blanc capital. Your can tour the wineries and taste the wines!

This morning, you'll learn all about the story of aviation in WW1 and WW2 at the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre in Blenheim. You'll then spend the rest of the day enjoying the Marlborough sounds, including long sheltered inlets, clear waters and sandy bays. For lunch, you'll enjoy the stunning waters aboard the exclusive Seafood Odyssea Cruise, complete with a gourmet lunch of salmon, clams and mussels with Marlborough sauvignon blanc for the definitive match.

You'll be able to savour each moment with the Scenic Plus experience, enjoying local delicacies, regional wines and captivating commentary. Upon arrival, you'll be transferred to your hotel.

This morning, you'll visit the home of the celebrated leader of the women’s suffrage movement, Kate Sheppard. Afterwards, you'll have the opportunity to go Punting on the Avon, a classic, must-do activity whilst in Christchurch to see the city from a different perspective. In the afternoon, you'll drive south to the beautiful harbour town of Akaroa to embark on an award-winning cruise to spot the rare Hector’s Dolphin, as well as penguins and other sea birds.

On the way, you'll stop to explore Lake Tekapo and visit the Church of the Good Shepherd on the shores of the lake. Lake Tekapo is the remarkable turquoise coloured lake set against the mountainous drama of the Southern Alps. On the shores of the lake, you'll see the beautiful Church of the Good Shepherd, before you continue to your lodge.

Today, you'll head about to Lanarch Castle, via Oamaru and the Moeraki Boulders. Oamaru, the largest town of the Waitaki District, has a rich history and boasts the country’s oldest public gardens, renowned Victorian architecture and two penguin colonies. After exploring Oamaru, you'll stop for a stroll on the beach to see the Moeraki Boulders. Then, you'll head to the award-winning Fleurs Place for a delicious seafood lunch before continuing on to Lanarch Castle.

You'll then journey to Curio Bay crossing through The Catlins, a wooded, wild coastal corner of the South Island. After checking into your lodge, you'll have the afternoon free to explore Curio Bay.
