The highlights of this trip include the charms of Christchurch's garden city, a road trip to Nelson, picturesque Hanmer Springs, Glacier Country and of course Wanaka. You will finish your vacation in Queenstown, New Zealand's adventure capital.

Day 1

Arrival in Christchurch

You will fly into Christchurch, a vibrant city that is traditionally known as the Garden City. This name was given due to its award-winning botanical gardens which are over 150 years old and host a great array of exotic and native plants. From the airport, you will be transferred to your hotel by shuttle, where you can take your time to check in and refresh yourself.

After a relaxed breakfast, you will get ready to explore Christchurch. Walking around downtown is a great way to see what the city has to offer. Almost all tourist-relevant destinations are within walking distance of one another. If you want to get a good impression of Christchurch, you should get a famous Christchurch sightseeing ride in a small flat-bottomed boat poled by a guide dressed in Edwardian clothing. Alternatively, you can ride a tram or explore the International Antarctic Centre.

A free day to explore either Akaroa or Kaikoura on your own. Located on the southeast side of the deep, sheltered Akaroa Harbour, the charming township of Akaroa has a special point of difference - it was the only French settlement in New Zealand. When visiting Akaroa, you can admire local highlights, including Lakey Forsyth, Banks Peninsula, Gebbies Pass. If you decide to visit Kaikoura, you can take part in Whale Watching - the most popular activity there.

Today, you will pick up your rental car and start your road trip. The first stop is a picture-perfect little village called Hanmer Springs. It is the best place to indulge in water activities, with a range of 22 outdoor thermal pools including the new cascades, relaxing rock pools, soothing sulphur pools, an array of water jets and bubbles. After lunch, you will drive to Nelson, an extraordinary, vibrant region where art and commerce coexist in the midst of a breathtaking natural landscape.

Sharing a name with the nearby breathtaking glacier, Franz Josef is a small town, known for being the stepping off point to exploring this spectacular World Heritage Area and the Westland Tai Poutini National Park. You can take breaks in Murchison, Greymouth and Hokitika. Once you arrive, you will check in at your hotel and refresh from the long journey.

the world. The terminal face of Franz Josef Glacier is just 300 metres above sea level!
Optionally, you can choose to do the 30 minutes Scenic Helicopter Ride.

After breakfast, start your drive to Lake Wanaka. The route is very scenic and there are plenty of photo opportunities. Please note that while driving through Haast Pass, there is no mobile coverage. It will take more than four hours to reach Wanaka. You will visit the Puzzling World, a world of wonderful Weirdness. After that, you will drive to your accommodation to refresh and explore the beautiful town.

Explore the beautiful Wanaka at your own pace. A moderate walk up Mount Iron will reward you with spectacular views. You will visit the famous Wanaka Tree and Lavender Farm, a hidden gem and a great place to wander around relaxing amongst the lavender. You will make friends with farm animals (alpacas and lambs in spring), have a game of 'Petanque', sample some of the lovely smelling products in the quaint shop or try the delicious homemade lavender ice cream.
