Trip Overview

With Bangkok as your base, this culturally immersive Thai experience takes you on and off the tourist trail in search of temples, markets and rural countryside landscapes finishing on a stunning island!

Starting in the capital, you'll find yourself on all manner of transportation to explore fully. You'll take a traditional boat through the city's 'klongs', hop on tuk-tuk's, and metro systems to see temples, the Royal Palace and the depths of Chinatown, Bangkok's food haven.

Leaving the city behind you head to Kanchanaburi, home to the Death Railway before you hop between Siam's old capitals, Ayutthaya, Lopburi and the famous Sukhothai, the home of Thai culture as we know it today. Each of the capitals have their own tales to tell, taking you on a journey through Thai history that is essential for your cultural immersion, ready to head to Thailand's most traditional city, Chiang Mai.

Today, visit the most important sights of Bangkok. First, head to Wat Timitr, with its gold Buddha statue, then the breathtaking reclining Buddha in Wat Pho and the royal palace, which are highly revered by Thai people. You may admire the impressive Emerald Buddha in its magnificent temple. Explore with a tour of the klongs (channels), the legendary Chao Praya River and the Thonburi area by boat. Finally, visit Wat Arun, the temple of dawn. In the evening, head to Chinatown for a food tour.

You check out and get ready for the drive to Kanchanaburi. Our first stops will be Mae Klong Market and Damnoen Saduak. Both markets are great insights into the lives of Thai people. Your tour guide will show you what local specialities to taste at the market. In Kanchanaburi, visit the JEATH War Museum, a realistic depiction of the living quarters of prisoners of war, then you will proceed to Kanchanaburi War Cemetery. In the afternoon, visit the world-famous bridge over the River Kwai.

Your tour guide will pick you up in the lobby. Then drive to Ayutthaya takes 3 hours and 30 minutes. You visit Wat Phanancherng, home to the oldest bronze Buddha image in Ayutthaya and admire Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, built in 1357 of King U-Thong. Explore Ayutthaya Historical Park and Wat Phra Mahathat. Its structure became the traditional model for temples nationwide. Then visit Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the most important temple within the royal palace and the original temple of the Emerald Buddha.

Drive to Lopburi, an ancient capital. In Lopburi, visit the temple Phra Narai Ratchaniwet, a museum in the ruins of a 17th-century palace. Afterwards visit of Phra Prang Sam Yod, perhaps best known for its monkeys. Then Kraison Siharat Palace, a residence of King Narai the Great of Ayutthaya. Afterwards, we continue to Phitsanulok, visit Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, home to the most beautiful Buddha image in Thailand. Then the journey continues to Sukhothai, the 13th-century capital of Siam.

In 1238, Sukhothai became the first independent Thai Kingdom and where the Thai language and alphabet originated. Begin the day at Ramkamhaeng Museum and Wat Mahathat. Then continue to Wat Chang Lom, Wat Phra Phai Luang and Wat Si Chum. In Lampang, you can take a stroll around Lampang to absorb its authentic traditional feel. You'll visit Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao and Wat Pong Sanuk, a beautiful temple with a mix of Lanna and Burmese Shan style. We leave Lampang and drive on to Chiang Mai.

Today, you will spend most of the day flying. From Chiang Mai you head back to Bangkok, then get a connecting flight down to Trat. From Trat, you'll be collected by a driver who will continue down to Koh Chang, which will take around two hours. The car can go on the boat, so there is no need to get out at any time. Relax in the back until you arrive at your hotel on the island.

As your final day on Koh Chang, you may wish to make the most of the pristine beaches of the island or multiple islands, with many easily accessible by boat. If you are looking to get one last cultural experience, Ban Salak Khok is the old fishing village which is also famous for its eco-tour programs that offer a unique cultural experience. The community offers a river cruise by using a vintage boat called Rua Mard. It is also known as “Thai-style gondola.”
