Then, head down the mountains to the historic centre and Selaron Steps, a colourful tribute to the Brazilian people. Finish your day at Sugarloaf Mountain for endless views of Rio and its beaches.

Take the morning to relax and enjoy the beaches, or go shopping. Then visit Little Africa in Rio which is unknown to many. Discover this part of the city on a historic walk through the African Heritage Circuit including the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Valongo Wharf where you'll learn about the Transatlantic Slave Trade from its main Rio port. Then you'll visit the slave cemetery and Institute for New Blacks. Finish the day at a samba party in Pedra do Sal.

After a 2 or 3 hour journey from Rio, you'll arrive in The Coffee Valley in Valença and Vassouras. This area accumulated a huge amount of wealth that was generated through enslaved Africans who were brought here to work in the coffee plantations and sugar cane mills. Your tour will be mediated by a descendant of the Africans who arrived at the ports of Rio who will share the stories and historical facts of the Coffee Valley.

You'll be welcomed by a "performer" guide dressed in historic costume who will share curiosities and anecdotes of everyday life in the 19th century and being part of the Coffee Cycle. Visit a plantation farm and witness the contradictory wealth generated by human exploitation to sustain the sumptuous way of life of the Coffee Barons. You'll also try some coffee, visit a coffee plantation and museum between activities.

Once you arrive in Paraty you'll have time to get settled before going on a walking tour at the historic centre. After the tour, enjoy a culinary workshop with a local chef, who uses ingredients from small, local producers, they will also teach you about the city's history and origins through food.

Wander through the forest on the Gold Path trail, an hour and a half walk where you'll have the opportunity to learn about the days when the city's centre of finance was the wharf. From here, the city received enslaved Africans and gold flowed from Minas Gerais to Europe.

Make your way to Quilombo do Campinho. A quilombo is a settlement where Africans and their descendants would meet to withstand slavery. The communities here maintain a strong connection with their culture and past. A resident guide will show you around the community and tell you the history of the quilombo, showing you the key places of remembrance, a reforestation project and several artifacts. Have lunch at a community restaurant serving fresh fish.

Start your exploration of the Sao Paulo coast and be introduced to the culture. We'll start by visiting Quilombo do Fazenda, where we'll learn to make tapioca flour, visit the mouth of a river and have a deep cultural exchange with the local community. All of this will be brought together with a delicious meal in the quilombo. You'll have the rest of the day to relax at the beach or in the town centre.

On a paradisiacal island in the state of Sao Paulo, Ilhabela Island, you'll meet the oldest black community in the state and experience the joy of their cultural assets translated on tastes, custumes and rhythms. With luck you can participate on local celebrations such as the Congada, a traditional dance from Ilhabela. Then you'll go to Castelhanos Bay where African slaves were trafficked illegally, today it hosts a range of tourism experiences.

Make your way to Sao Sebastiao to visit the San Francisco archaeological site considered one of the 100 sites of African Diasporic Memory as recognised by UNESCO. In the afternoon, you will go to São Paulo city in time for dinner at Biyou'Z where you can enjoy African dishes from across the continent.

In the morning, visit the ADUS Institute that helps to resettle immigrants and refugees in the city. You'll continue to the historic centre and Liberdade to uncover the tradition of immigration that radiates through the city and you can take an African Heritage tour. In the afternoon, fly to Salvador and relax for the remainder of the day.

A full day of immersing yourself in Afro-Brazillian culture. You'll visit a Babalorixa to understand a little bit of the Candomble spiritual Ioruba practice. Visit a master of capoeira, maybe watch a class and learn about the history behind the sport. Go to São Joaquim Fair to meet the Soteropolitan people, spicy tastes and experience their culture. Finish in Liberdade, where many Afro-descendants live, home to the famous Afro carnival party, Ile Aie.

A historic town filled with colourful homes, Cachoeira is regarded as the jewel of Baiano, the cradle of the spiritual practice, Candomble - a sanctuary for Bahia folk traditions. On the way, stop in Santo Amaro, where there is a beautiful street market. You'll visit some of the many temples here.

The capital of Bahia, Salvador has a unique blend of Portuguese colonial architecture, rich Afro-Brazilian culture and stunning natural surrounds. This is a fascinating city to spend time in.
