Trip Overview
The Toubkal region of the High Atlas contains the highest peaks of Morocco and Mount Toubkal, at 4,167 metres, is the highest summit in North Africa. Over three days you'll go trekking in the Atlas Mountains and go camping while enjoying authentic local meals.
For climbers, Toubkal is the most frequently visited peak in the High Atlas. The views from the summit of Toubkal provide a wonderful opportunity to see the many high peaks of the High Atlas. Located in the western part of the High Atlas, the Toubkal ancient rock massive overlooks the Haouz Plain to the north and the mountains Siroua and the Anti-Atlas to the south.
Remarkably, the starting point for the trek and climb is only 1½ hours by good road from Marrakesh. The Toubkal summit can be tackled (up and down) in just two days for fit mountain hikers who are used to this sort of terrain (NOTE: this can be extended by a day or two for those who wish to acclimatise).
As well as enjoying the challenge of the trek and the rewards gained on reaching the Toubkal summit, being amongst the Berbers, the people of the mountains, is an additional and wonderful bonus. Berber culture and heritage have a rich tradition of hospitality, generosity and friendliness towards others. Meeting such people and enjoying interaction with them is very warming and heartening.
