Trip Overview

Explore the wonderful country of Sri Lanka over eight days. You'll spend your time marvelling at the great variety of landscapes and wildlife that this island offers as well as meeting lots of local people and learning about the Sri Lankan way of life.

Beginning in Sigiriya, home to the UNESCO-listed Lion's Rock Fortress, you'll spend your first few days visiting the ancient city of Polonnaruwa where you'll take your time strolling through the ruins of this impressive site full of treasures and archaeological remains.

Moving on, you'll find yourself in the hill capital of Sri Lanka, Kandy, where you'll visit the famous Temple of the Tooth Relic and the impressive Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya. After spending a night in the beautiful mountain resort of Nuwara Eliya, you'll move on to Horton Plains National Park to do some hiking and take in the views.

After spending an exciting night in Udawalawe National Park and going out on safari to spot elephants, crocodiles, water buffaloes and more, you'll travel to Galle where you'll spend the last couple of days of your personalised Sri Lanka travel package.

Welcome to Sri Lanka! Your driver will pick you up at the airport and drive you to your first destination of your Sri Lanka travel package, Negombo. You'll enjoy a free day in Negombo where you can go for a boat trip in the mangrove of Muthurajawela or the Dutch canal. As you slide along the water in the channels lined with lush vegetation, you are accompanied by birds, cormorants, egrets, monkeys and monitor lizards. You'll then travel to Sigiriya by road where you'll check into your hotel.

This morning, you'll visit the famous UNESCO-listed Fortress of Sigiriya, also known as Lion's Rock. The fortress complex includes remnants of a ruined palace, surrounded by an extensive network of fortifications, vast gardens, ponds, canals, alleys and fountains. You'll then travel to Kandy by road and visit the Temple of the Tooth, a sacred temple that contains the most important Buddhist relic in the country.

Today, you'll begin the day by visiting the impressive Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya. Let yourself be captivated by the huge Java fig tree that covers an area of ​2,500 metres-squared, trees with cannonballs or the majestic Araucarias trail that seems to dance! You'll then continue to Nuwara Eliya, your next destination. Often nicknamed 'Little England', Nuwara Eliya is a beautiful mountain resort that has kept a "colonial British" atmosphere intact.

Today, you'll journey from Nuwara Eliya to Horton Plains by road. Horton Plains National Park can be accessed on foot and is home to two of the highest peaks in the country, Kirigalpotta, and Totapola. You can head towards "World's End", a gigantic 800-metre cliff with an amazing view. You'll then continue from Horton Plains to Udawalawe by road. You'll arrive at the Big Game Camp in Udawalawe National Park in the early evening.

This morning, you'll set off on a half-day safari in Udawalawe National Park, one of the most beautiful national parks in Sri Lanka. If you're lucky, you can spot dozens of elephants and crocodiles, water buffaloes, aquatic lizards, mongooses and peacocks. After the safari, you'll set off for Galle. Upon arrival, you'll enjoy a free afternoon in Galle where you can stroll through the alleys of the city and take in its charm. Don't forget to catch the sunset!

Today, you'll have the day free to explore the colonial city of Galle. Take this opportunity to visit the Dutch Fort and after visiting the ramparts, take the time to stroll through the alleys of the old town whose ambience evokes that of a medieval European city. Cafes, restaurants, craft shops and artists' studios contribute to the liveliness and charm of the old city. You can also go cycling around Galle and explore its villages and ride amidst the rice fields to witness rural Sri Lanka!
